Family photoshoot in Redhill

Last weekend I had the pleasure of a photoshoot with some old friends in the beautiful countryside near Redhill, Surrey. We timed the shoot in the hope that the bluebells would be out and we weren’t disappointed. Even better, our walk took us through some striking rapeseed fields so we were spoilt for bright colours!

We quickly realised that with two families plus a combination of mud, strong sunlight and very energetic children, it was going to be difficult to get many ‘traditional’ images, so my focus quickly switched to documentary-style photography. Rather than searching for picture-perfect backgrounds and worrying about how I was going to arrange people and get the kids to fall in line, I was able just to concentrate on the people and the fun.

Honestly, I much prefer this approach, and while we did manage to get some nice posed pictures, I just love the ones of the kids at play, exploring and interacting with each other and their parents. This was a reminder that no two family shoots are the same, and even with the best laid plans it’s important to go with the flow. The kids were certainly in the lead this time and I was more than happy to follow! I’m very happy with the results and the parents have a lovely record of the day.

This last image is my favourite of the day. The kids had taken a wrong turn out of the woods and took a narrow path between the trees and the rapeseed field. There were lots of stinging nettles and some careful footwork was needed to escape. I love this picture of Freddie being the perfect gentleman and helping Rebecca find her way to safety 🥰

Many of my shoots are simply about creating a beautiful record of your family time together. The best portraits are often the unplanned ones that capture those little connections and the fun as it unfolds. This takes the pressure off and means all you need to do is to be yourselves 😊

If you’re thinking you might like me to capture a bit of your family magic, here’s what to do next:

  • To find out more about my sessions, how I work and prices and packages, download my e-brochure, which is packed full of info and previous client galleries.

  • If you’d like to go ahead and reserve a session, I still have some availability for winter shoots in January and February. Just go to my online calendar to make a booking and pay the session fee, and I’ll be in touch.

  • If you’d like to get to the front of the queue for spring shoots, you can join my Wait List here. You’ll be first to know when dates are released, have first dibs on sessions for March, April and May, and get a Wait List discount.

  • If you’re unsure and would just like to have a chat, please get in touch and we can arrange a call :)
